Final Chatham Island tattoo design

Hi!

Today I finished my design of the Catham Islands in a tribal style.
My client wanted some adjustments to make it look less sharp, so I rounded some tribal elements at the bottom of the tattoo.
Here's the final sketch and the high resolution design.

Ps. I also created a profile and a small gallery on Deviantart.com and placed my latest designs on this site.

custom tattoo design

Hi,

Yesterday I started on a new shoulder piece for a customer from Colombia.
He wanted a quarter/half sleeve maori design with some elements from shoulder tattoo 147 and 152.

Not to detailed fills and it had to wrap around the arm a little. The total size of the design is 18 cm x 15 cm.

Here's the first two pictures of the design:

The final sketch will follow when the customer is satisfied with this pencil sketch.

I'm also working on a forearm tatoo design, that wraps around completely and has to make a seamless fit. Quite a challenge, I'll post some pictures soon.

If you want to send me a message, simply use my e-mailaddress, or put a comment on this blog.

New custom tattoo designs in Maori style

Hi!

For the last week I have been working on a lot of custom tattoo pieces in Maori style.

Here are a few of the designs. The first one is a combination of Che Guevarra with a Maori shoulder sketch around it.

The second is a rugby ball incorporated in a Maori piece for the upper leg.

The third one is a collar tattoo design in Maori style for a customer from the USA.

I appreciate your comments, so let me know what you think!

How to design a maori shoulder tattoo: Step three

The ferns and maori shapes like curles are ready now.
Then I start sketching and filling the empty spaces in the design.
I like to use triangles, squares and repeating shapes, so the tattoo will have some rythm and flow to it.

To make the tattoo design fit around the upper arm, I have to make sure the two sides of the drawing line up exactly and make a seamless fit.

This can be done like this: First design one side of your shoulder tattoo. Just make the tribal shapes and lines you wish.
Then scan this and print it to a sheet of paper.
Cut the shape and put the printed paper on the other side of the design, aligning with the other border.

Tomorrow I will illustrate this drawing technique with an example image.

How to design a maori shoulder tattoo: Step two

When the first rough outline of the shoulder tattoo is set, I try to make some nice flowing curls and koru shapes.
The koru fern is a representation of peace and tranquility along with a strong sense of regrowth or new beginnings.

I like to combine different tribal tattoo elements, like triangles and Polynesian style signs and tattoo shapes.

Here's the picture of the second step:

Tomorrow I will post the next step. Subscribe to my feed to keep updated.

Hi!

It's a step by step example, first I make a rough sketch with pencil and I tweak and alter it till the customer is satisfied with the design.
Then I trace the lines and shapes with a black marker.

I will post the pictures soon.

Custom Maori style tattoo designs

Hi there!

For the last week I have been doing three custom pieces in Maori style.
I really enjoyed doing the design with the flowers for a guy from Australia. He loved the waves and I incorporated different elements into his tattoo design.
The other designs are Maori shoulder and chest tattoos.
